On consumer price changes in July 2009

Compared to June 2009, the average consumer price level in July 2009 decreased by 0.6%. The average prices of goods decreased by 0.8%, but prices of services - by 0.2%.

The decrease of the prices of gas, fresh vegetables, clothing and footwear, as well price increase of alcoholic beverages had the greatest impact on consumer price changes in July 2009.

Based on the administered decision, the price decrease of natural gas on average by 23.8% had the biggest downward impact on headline rate of consumer price changes.

It follows the seasonal price decrease of vegetables and fruit by 12.7% and 0.7% respectively.

Due to the continuation of the seasonal sales prices of clothing on average decreased by 3.1%, but of footwear - by 6.9%.

Special offers contributed price decrease of some food products, especially fats and oils, cheese, milk and dairy products, bread, cereals and sugar.

In July price drop continued for heat energy, rents, services of maintenance and repair of dwelling, household services, catering and accommodation services, outpatient services, and services of the maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment.

Furniture, fuels, motorcars, household appliances, toys, equipment for sport and open-air recreation, flowers and airline tickets became less expensive as well.

The major upward impact came from price increase of alcoholic beverages on average by 6,0%, responding to the changes in excise duty.

Price increase was recorded also for some food products, especially fresh meat, fish, eggs, sweets, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

Financial services, package holidays and the services of rehabilitation centres become more expensive.

Compared to July of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 2.5%, of which prices of goods increased by 1.2%, but of services – by 5.7%.

The annual average rate of change in July 2009 was 9.1%.
