On consumer price changes in February 2011

Compared to January 2011, the average consumer price level in February 2011 increased by 0.3%. Prices of goods rose by 0.3%, but of services – by 0.2%.

The largest upward pressures to the price changes came from food, but downward – from clothing and footwear.

In February prices of food continued to grow. The main contributors to the increase were vegetables (+8.8%), milk and dairy products (+3.2%), cheese (+2.6%), tea, coffee (+3.3%) and fruit (+4.1%), while the main contributors to the decrease were meat and meat products (-0.8%), bread (-0.9%), confectionery, honey (-0.4%) and eggs (-0.3%).

Due to the discounts and seasonal sales prices of footwear decreased by 5.7%, prices of wearing apparel - by 1.8%, but prices of clothing accessories fell by 11.0%.

The average price level for fuel was 0.5% higher compared to January. Price increase was recorded for passenger transport by road, driving lessons, insurance connected with transport, package holidays, pharmaceutical products and flowers.

In February prices of heat energy fell by 1.2%. Due to special offers price decrease was observed for products for personal care, cleaning and maintenance products, alcoholic beverages, furniture and furnishings, data processing equipment, services of sanatoriums, toys, household appliances, recreational and sporting services and household textiles.

Compared to February of the previous year, consumer prices increased by 4.0%. The average price level for goods increased by 5.7%, but for services – decreased by 0.4%.

The annual average rate of change in February 2011 was 0.2%.
