On consumer price changes in April 2010

Compared to March 2010, the average consumer price level in April 2010 increased by 0.9%. Prices of goods rose by 1.4%, but of services – decreased by 0.4%.

Price growth of goods and services in housing, transport, food, clothing and footwear, as well as price decrease of telecommunication services had the major impact on consumer price changes in April.

Influenced by the rise of heat energy tariffs by 13.9%, the prices of goods and services related to housing maintenance on average grew by 4.1%.

Prices of fuel on average grew by 3.1%, of which prices of petrol increased by 2.8%, but prices of diesel - by 4.0%.

Prices of food products grew on average by 0.5%. Due to seasonal influence, prices of vegetables rose by 3.2%, but prices of fruit – by 2.5%.

Prices of clothing increased by 1.4%, but prices of footwear – by 2.2%, and that was caused by the end of sales and the entry of new seasonal articles on the market.

Prices of pharmaceutical and tobacco products grew. Because of the ending discounts prices of photo, video equipment rose.

Price decrease was recorded for telecommunication, catering, insurance, and recreational and sports services, services of individual care institutions, flowers, package holidays, alcoholic beverages, TV, audio, video equipment, jewellery, telephones, tableware and glassware.

Compared to April of previous year, consumer prices decreased by 2.7%. The average price level for goods decreased by 1.5%, but for services - by 5.8%.

The annual average rate of change in April 2010 decreased by 0.4%.
