Construction in Latvia in 4th quarter of 2009

In 2009 construction volume (at current prices) comprised LVL 1018.9 mln, of which in the 4th quarter – LVL 249.5 mln, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau.

Compared to 2008, construction volume in 2009 at constant prices reduced by 35.3%, of which volume of construction of buildings decreased by 55.2% and volume of construction of civil engineering structures diminished by 27.4%.

Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2008, construction in Latvia in 4th quarter of 2009 reduced by 11.1%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Of which volume of buildings constructed decreased by 30.0%, but volume of civil engineering structures constructed grew by 0.1%.

Compared to the corresponding quarter a year before, construction in Latvia in 4th quarter of 2009 decreased by 38.5% (working day adjusted data at constant prices). Of which construction of buildings reduced by 52.8% and volume of civil engineering structures constructed – by 23.6%.

Most notable reduction was recorded in construction and repairs of wholesale and retail trade buildings – 88.2%, of industrial buildings and warehouses - 66.3%, and of residential buildings - by 61.7%. But compared to a corresponding period a year before, construction volume has increased only in construction of bridges and tunnels – by 180.8%.
