On construction and building permits granted in 2nd quarter of 2012

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau, construction volume at current prices in the 2nd quarter of 2012 comprised LVL 230.8 million.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2012, construction volume in the 2nd quarter of 2012 increased by 3.9%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices.Of which construction of buildings grew by 2.6% and construction of civil engineering structures - by 4.1%.

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2011, construction volume in the 2nd quarter of 2012 increased by 23.5%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Of which construction of buildings - by 15.8% and construction of civil engineering structures – by 29.2%.

As compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the most notable increase in construction works and repairs was recorded in construction of main pipelines, communication and power lines and in road construction – by 107.3% and 48.4% respectively.In its turn, volume decreased in construction of bridges and tunnels, as well as in construction of production buildings and warehouses – by 24.0% and 11.1%, accordingly.

As compared to the 1st half of 2011,construction volume in the 1st half of 2012 according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices increased by 25.4%. Of which construction of buildings grew by 16.7% and construction of civil engineering structures – by 28.4%.

In the 2nd quarter of 2012 construction management authorities granted 681 building permits for construction, capital repairs, reconstruction and restoration of single dwelling buildings with the total floor space of 134.6 thousand m2 (in the 2nd quarter of 2011 – 548 and 119.2 thousand m2, respectively).142 building permits were granted for construction of production buildings and warehouses with the total floor space of 169.4 thousand m2 (in the 2nd quarter of 2011 - 91 permits and 189.3 thousand m2, respectively).  

445 building permits were granted for construction of new single dwelling buildings with the total floor space 93.1 thousand m2 and 77 building permits - for construction of new production buildings and warehouses with the total floor space of 88.1 thousand m2.
