On construction and building permits granted in 1st quarter of 2012

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau construction volume at current prices in the 1st quarter of 2012 comprised LVL 123.6 million.

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2011, construction volume in the 1st quarter of 2012 decreased by 0.4%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Of which construction of buildings declined by 2.8%, whereas construction of civil engineering structures increased by 0.2%.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2011, construction volume in the 1st quarter of 2012 grew by 28.5%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Of which construction of buildings increased by 26.2% and construction of civil engineering structures – by 30.6%.

As compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the most notable increase in construction works and repairs was recorded in construction of office buildings and in road construction – by 194.6% and 109.4% respectively. In its turn, construction volume decreased in construction of bridges and tunnels, as well as in construction of residential buildings – by 60.8% and 18.5% respectively.

In the 1st quarter of 2012 construction management authorities granted 304 building permits for construction, capital repairs, reconstruction and restoration of single dwelling buildings with the total floor space of 66.7 thousand m2 (in the 1st quarter of 2011 – 279 and 64.0 thousand m2, respectively). 80 building permits were granted for construction of production buildings and warehouses with the total floor space of 93.2 thousand m2 (in the 1st quarter of 2011 - 107 permits and 246.4 thousand m2, respectively).

In the 1st quarter of 2012, 185 building permits were granted for construction of new single dwelling buildings with the total floor space of 39.1 thousand m2 (in the 1st quarter of 2011, 161 and 39.0 thousand m2 respectively). In its turn, 49 building permits were granted for construction of new production buildings and warehouses with the total floor space of 41.3 thousand m2 (in the 1st quarter of 2011, 71 and 184.7 thousand m2 respectively).
