On construction and building permits granted in 1st quarter of 2011

In 1st quarter of 2011 the construction volume (at current prices) comprised LVL 91.5 million, according to the data of Central Statistical Bureau. Construction, especially the building of civil engineering structures (roads, bridges, etc.), was significantly influenced by the unfavourable weather conditions.

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2010, construction in 1st quarter of 2011 has reduced by 15.0%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices.Of which the volume of buildings constructed has diminished by 13.0%, but the volume of civil engineering structures - by 19.4%.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2010, construction volume in the 1st quarter of 2011 has decreased by 15.1%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices.Of which construction of buildings dropped by 15.5% and volume of civil engineering structures constructed – by 14.7%.

The most notable reduction of construction and repairs, if compared to the corresponding period of previous year, was observed in the construction of office buildings and in the construction of wholesale and retail trade buildings – by 73.5% and 57.2%, respectively.But the growth of construction volume, in turn, was recorded in the construction of residential buildings and construction of hospital or institutional care buildings – by 82.1% and 35.3%, correspondingly.

In the 1st quarter of 2011 construction management authorities granted  279 building permits for the construction, capital repairs, reconstruction and restoration of single dwelling buildings with total floor space 64.0 thousand m2 (in 1st quarter of 2010 – 259 and 55.7 thousand m2).107 building permits were granted for the construction of production buildings and warehouses with total floor space 246.4 thousand m2 (in 1st quarter of 2010 - 40 permits and 89.4 thousand m2, respectively).

161 building permit in the 1st quarter of 2011 was granted for the construction of new single dwelling houses with total floor space 39.0 thousand m2 (in 1st quarter of 2010 – 167 and 38.7 thousand m2, respectively) and 71 building permit was issued for the new construction of industrial buildings and warehouses with total floor space 184.7 thousand m2 (in 1st quarter of 2010 – 23 and 62.3 thousand m2, respectively).
