Collection of data for the Farm Structure Survey 2016 continues

The Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) is starting the second stage of data collection for the Farm Structure Survey 2016, during which respondents will be interviewed in person at their holdings and via telephone.Farmers still have the opportunity of submitting their data electronically on until 1 December.

During the first stage, from 22 August to 11 September 2016, 4 % or 1.2 thousand holdings used the possibility of submitting data electronically via the CSB data collection system.

In the second stage interviewers of the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre (LRATC) will survey 24 thousand holdings until 5 December, since the respective holdings did not submit their data electronically until 11 September; when arriving at the holdings, the interviewers will present a personal identification document. In addition, interviewers of the CSB Telephone Interview Centre will survey 3.1 thousand holdings via phone during the period from 3 October to 15 December.

In case of any questions it is possible to call the toll-free number +371 80007888 for consultations (on working days from 8:30 to 17:00), as well as write an e-mail to lssa [at] csb [dot] gov [dot] lv.

The survey is aimed at collecting information on holdings that have been selected with the help of the simple random sampling method. All of the holdings included in the survey received a letter containing information on the possibilities for submitting data in August.

The Farm Structure Survey is conducted in compliance with the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No 1166/2008. The data acquired will be used for the assessment of the agricultural sector development, as well as for evidence-based decision-making within the framework of Latvian and common European agricultural policy planning. Results of the Farm Structure Survey are also used in the analysis of other processes, e.g. evaluation of changes in environmental and regional development.

The CSB will publish the first provisional results of the survey in April and September 2017, whereas the final results will be available at the end of December 2017.
