On changes of wages and salaries in 2006 and 4th quarter of 2006

The data of Central Statistical Bureau shows that countries average gross monthly wage and salary in 2006, compared with 2005 increased by 23,0%, what is the biggest increase in last ten years.

In 2006,in comparison with 2005, wages and salaries increased from 246 to 302 lats or by 57 lats, in the public sector1) from 285 to 351 lats or by 66 lats, in private sector - from 224 to 277 lats or by 53 lats.

But the regular costs on average gross monthly wage and saly2) grew by 21,3%.

Countries average net monthly wage in this period increased by 23,1% and reached 216 lats. The real growth of wages and salaries3) in 2006, compared with previous year, was 15,6%.

Average gross monthly wage and salary in 2006, compared with 2005, the most rapidly increased in such industries as construction – from 211 to 282 lats or by 33,7%, mining and quarrying– from 257 to 331 lats or by 28,9%, health and social work – from 233 to 298 lats or by 27,9%. The lowest increase has been observed in the industries of transport, storage and communication – by 16,3%.

In regions gross monthly wage and salary during a year mainly increased in region of Pierīga – by 26,2% and in Riga – by 23,8%, but the lowest increase was in region of Kurzeme – by 19,1%. The highest wages and salaries were in Riga – 347 lats. Compared with 2005, it rose by 67 lats. The lowest wages and salaries were in region of Latgale. In 2006 they were 214 lats or 70,6% from average gross monthly wage and salary in country.

The biggest increase of country wages and salaries in 2006 was in 4th quarter, when average gross monthly wage and salary reached 344 lats, what is by 27,9% more than in 4th quarter of 2005.

Compared with 4th quarter of 2005, the most rapidly it increased to people working in educational sphere – from 264 to 373 lats or by 41,1%, in construction – from 234 to 318 lats or by 35,8%, as well as for those working in the industry of mining and quarrying – from 279 to 366 lats or by 31,4%.
