On changes of wages and salaries in 1st quarter of 2007

The data of Central Statistical Bureau shows that countries average gross monthly wage and salary in 1st quarter of 2007 was 357 lats, and compared with 1st quarter of 2006, it increased by 32.8%. But the regular costs on average gross monthly wage and saly2) grew by 32.3%.

Wages and salaries in the public sector1) increased from 301 lat in 1st quarter of 2006 to 406 lats in 1st quarter of 2007 or by 34.5% and in private sector - from 252 to 334 lats or by 32.8%.

Countries average net monthly wage in this period increased by 33.4% and reached 257 lats. The real growth of wages and salaries3) in 1st quarter of 2007, compared with 1st quarter of previous year, was 24.0%.

Average gross monthly wage and salary in 1st quarter of 2007, compared with 1st quarter of 2006, the most rapidly increased in the electricity, gas and water supply - from 371 to 536 lats or by 44.4%. The high increase in this industry was produced by irregular payments (regular gross wage and salary increase is 29.0%). Wages and salaries more rapidly increased also in such industries as public, social and other services – from 228 to 321 lats or by 40.8%, in mining and quarrying – from 283 to 394 lats or by 39.0%, in construction – from 240 to 331 lats or by 38,0%, public administration and defence; compulsory social security – from 356 to 490 lats or by 37.8%, as well as in health and social work – from 267 to 366 lats or by 37.0%.

In regions gross monthly wage and salary during a year mainly increased in region of Pierīga – by 34.5%, Kurzeme region - by 34.3% and Zemgale region – by 33.6%, but the lowest increase was in Latgale region – by 30.8%. The highest wages and salaries were in Riga – 407 lats. Compared with 1st quarter of 2006, in 1st quarter of 2007 it has increased by 98 lats. The lowest wages and salaries were in region of Latgale. In 1st quarter of 2007 it was 249 lats or 69.6% from average gross monthly wage and salary in country.

Comparing data on 1st quarter of 2007 with data on 4th quarter of 2006, should be mentioned, that average gross wage and salary in the country increased by 4.0%, of which regular payments – by 12.1%.
