On changes of wages in the 2ndquarter of 2007

The data of Central Statistical Bureau shows that average gross monthly wage and salary in the country  in the 2nd quarter of 2007 was 389 lats, and compared with 2nd quarter of 2006, it increased by 33.4%. But the regular costs on average gross monthly wage and salary1) grew by 33.2%.

Wages and salaries in the public sector2) increased from 338 lats in 2nd quarter of 2006 to 463 lats in 2nd quarter of 2007 or by 37.1% and in private sector - from 267 to 354 lats or by 32.4%.

Countries average net monthly wage in this period increased by 33.7% and reached 279 lats. The real growth of wages and salaries3) was 23.1%.

Average gross monthly wage and salary in 2nd quarter of 2007, compared with 2nd quarter of 2006, the most rapidly increased in the health and social work - from 295 to 414 lats or by 40.5%, public, social and other services- from 249 to 348 lats or by 40.1%, public administration and defence; compulsory social security - from 414 to 578 lats or by 39.7%, in construction- from 268 to 369 or by 37.9%.

In regions gross monthly wage and salary during a year mainly increased in Kurzeme region – by 36.9%, Zemgale region - by 36.5% and region of Pieriga– by 36.3%, but the lowest increase was in Latgale region – by 31.4%. The highest wages and salaries were in Riga – 440 lats. Compared with 2nd quarter of 2006, in 2nd quarter of 2007 it has increased by 106 lats. The lowest wages and salaries in the 2nd quarter of 2007 were in region of Latgale- 269 lats or 69.3% from average gross monthly wage and salary in country.

Comparing data on 1st quarter of 2007 with data on 2nd quarter of 2007, should be mentioned, that average gross wage and salary in the country increased by 9.2%, of which regular payments – by 7.7 %.

The highest gross wage and salary in the Baltic States in the 2nd quarter of 2007 was in Estonia- 738 euros (increase over the 2nd quarter of 2006- 21.2%), in Latvia- 553 euros (33.4%) and in Lithuania- 529 euros (20.2%).
