On changes of unit values of foreign trade in the 4th quarter of 2008

Compared to 2007, the unit value (UV) in 2008 increased by 7.7% for exported goods and by 8.8% for imported goods, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.

Compared to the same period of 2007, in the 4th quarter of the previous year the UV of exported goods increased by 0.8% and the UV of imported goods rose by 7.9%. In its turn, compared to the previous 3rd quarter, the unit value decreases were 8.5% for exported goods and 0.1% for imported goods.

Compared to the 3rd quarter, the average level of export unit value in the 4th quarter of 2008 was mostly lowered by the UV decreases of base metals and articles of base metals, of wood and wood products, of mineral products and of transport vehicles.

The UV decreases of base metals and articles of base metals, as well as of machinery, mechanical appliances and electrical equipment had the greatest impact on the average level of import unit value in the 4th quarter of 2008, compared to the previous quarter.

Over the year average level of export and import unit values was mostly influenced by UV increases of base metals and articles of base metals, of products of the chemical and allied industries, as well as of mineral products.
