Changes in the unit values of foreign trade in the 3rd quarter of 2007

Compared to corresponding quarter of 2006, the unit value (UV) for exported goods in the 3rd quarter of 2007 increased on average by 13.5% and the unit value for imported goods rose by 4.5%, according to Central Statistical Bureau. Compared to the previous quarter, the UV increases were 2.3% for exported goods and 1.2% for imported goods.

Compared to the 2nd quarter, the average level of export unit value in the 3rd quarter of 2007 was raised mostly by the UV increase of 2.1 percentage point for wood and articles of wood. The average UV level for exported goods was raised by the UV increases of 0.4 percentage points for mineral products and of 0.3 percentage points for textiles and textile articles. Over the same period the greatest lowering effect (by 0.9 percentage points) has been due to a fall in the UV of base metals and articles of base metals. The decreases of UV for prepared foodstuffs (incl. beverages and tobacco products) lowered the average UV level of exported goods by 0.2 percentage points.

Compared to the previous quarter, the average level of import unit value in the 3rd quarter this year was raised mostly by the UV increases for mineral products ( by 1.4 percentage points). UV increase for wood and articles of wood increased the average level of unit value by 0.2 percentage points. UV increase of pulp of wood; paper and paperboard, as well as, of base metals and articles of base metals had the same impact. Over the same period the greatest lowering effect (by 1.3 percentage points) has been due to a fall in the UV of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment. The decreases of UV for transport vehicles lowered the average UV level of exported goods by 0.2 percentage points.
