Changes in the unit values of foreign trade in the 2nd quarter of 2006

Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2005, the unit value of exported goods in the 2nd quarter of 2006 increased on average by 8.0% and the unit value of imported goods rose by 10.0%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau. Compared to the previous quarter, UV increases were 3.0% for exported goods and 3.2% for imported goods.

Compared to the 1st quarter, the average level of export unit value in the 2nd quarter of 2006 was raised mostly by the UV increase of 1.5 percentage points for basic metals and articles of basic metals (especially for ferrous and non-alloy steel bars). The average level of export UV was raised by the increases of 0.8 percentage points for mineral products (mainly fuel) as well as for transport vehicles and equipment.

Over the same period the greatest lowering effect was due to the UV decrease of 0.2 percentage points for prepared foodstuffs.

Compared to the previous quarter, the average level of import unit value in the 2nd quarter this year was raised mostly by the UV increase of 1.9 percentage points for mineral products (mainly petrol and natural gas). The level of UV for imported goods was raised by the following UV increases: 0.7 percentage points for machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment, 0.4 percentage points for basic metals and articles of basic metals (mainly rolled iron and steel, metal structures, articles of copper and aluminium) and 0.2 percentage points for the products of the chemical and allied industries.

Over the same period the greatest lowering effect (by 0.2 percentage points) was due to a fall in the UV of textiles and textile articles (especially for woven fabrics and clothing).
