Changes in the unit values of foreign trade in the 1st quarter of 2006

Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2005, the unit value of exported goods in the 1st quarter of 2006 increased on average by 5.4% and the unit value of imported goods rose by 10.2%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau. Compared to the previous quarter, UV increases were 1.7% for exported goods and 1.9% for imported goods.

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2005, the average level of export unit value in the 1st quarter of 2006 was raised mostly by the UV increases of 0.5 percentage points for basic metals and articles of basic metals, 0.4 percentage points for machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment and 0.2 percentage points for wood and articles of wood. Over the same period the greatest lowering effect was due to UV decreases of 0.3 percentage points for prepared foodstuffs and for mineral products and 0.2 percentage points for transport vehicles and equipment.

Compared to the previous quarter, the average level of import unit value in the 1st quarter this year was raised mostly by the UV increases of 0.6 percentage points for vegetable products as well as for machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment. The level of UV for imported goods was raised by the following UV increases: 0.4 percentage points for textiles and textile articles, 0.3 percentage points for pulp of wood; paper and paperboard and 0.2 percentage points for mineral products. Over the same period the greatest lowering effect (by 0.1 percentage point) was due to a fall in the UV of prepared foodstuffs as well as of plastics and articles thereof.
