On changes of unit value of foreign trade in the 1st quarter of 2009

Compared to the same period of 2008, the unit value (UV) in the 1st quarter of 2009 decreased by 5.0% for exported goods and increased by 1.6% for imported goods, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia. In its turn, compared to the previous – 4th quarter of 2008 - unit value of exported goods decreased by 3.4%, but of imported goods - by 4.0%.

Compared to the 4th quarter of the previous year, the average level of export unit value in the 1st quarter of 2009 was mostly lowered by the UV decrease of wood and wood products, of base metals and articles of base metals, of products of the chemical and allied industries and of mineral products.

Compared to the previous quarter, the greatest impact on the average level of import unit value in the 1st quarter of 2009 had the UV decrease of mineral products, as well as of base metals and articles of base metals.
