Building permits granted for residential and civil engineering buildings in the 1st half of 2007

In the 1st half of 2007 construction management authorities granted 2818 permits for the construction of one-dwelling buildings with a total area of 618.3 thsd m², according to the Central Statistical Bureau. But in the 1st half of 2006 2520 permits for a total area of 555.9 thsd m2 were granted. In the 1st half of 2007 544 building permits were granted for the construction of summerhouses and weekend houses. Building permits are granted for the construction of new buildings as well as for capital repair, reconstruction and restoration of the buildings.

In 1st half of 2007 of the total number of permits issued for the construction of one-dwelling buildings 2184 building permits or 78% were issued for the construction of new buildings. In the 1st half of 2006 the number of permits for the construction of new one-dwelling buildings represented 76% of the total number of permits granted for the construction of this kind of buildings.

The majority of building permits for the construction of one-dwelling buildings in the 1st half 2006 were issued in the district of Riga – 909 building permits making up 42% of the total number of such permits in the country. 173 building permits (8%) were issued in the district of Ogre, in the city of Riga - 145 building permits (7%), in the city of Jelgava – 109 (5%), in the district of Bauska – 81 (4%), in the district of Jelgava – 80 (4%), in the district of Saldus – 62 (3%), in the district of Tukums – 61 (3%), in Jūrmala– 53 (2%).

Of the total number of building permits issued for the construction of summerhouses and weekend houses (544 permits) 256 or 47% were issued for the construction of new summerhouses and weekend houses with a total area of 28176 m². The majority of this type of houses is intended to be built in the district of Riga – 152 houses or 59% of the total number of summerhouses and weekend houses, followed by the district of Ogre – 28 houses (11%), and district of Jelgava – 14 houses (5%).

In the first half of 2007 329 building permits were granted for the construction of two and more dwelling houses with a total area of 703.9 thsd m². Of the total 329 building permits issued 289 permits for a total area of 619.4 thsd m² were granted for the construction of new two or more dwelling buildings. These permits were granted in the cities of Riga, Daugavpils, Jelgava, Jūŗmala and Liepāja, Rēzekne, and in the districts of Bauska, Krāslava, Kuldīga, Ogre, Rīga, Talsi, Tukums and Valmiera.

In the first half of 2007 building permits were granted for the construction of 35 new hotels and other similar short-term accommodation buildings with a total area of 16.7 thsd m², 26 66permits were issued for the construction of new office buildings, 37 permits for new wholesale and retail trade buildings, and 30 – for new traffic and communications buildings. Building permits were also granted for new industrial production buildings and warehouses (90 building permits), and new mass-entertainment, educational or healthcare buildings (23 building permits).

The building permits were granted also for engineering buildings. 100 permits were granted for the construction of new highways, streets and roads, 1 permit for the construction of railway tracks, as well as 93 permits for the construction of new main pipelines, communications and power transmission lines with a total length of 118.9 km. In the 1st half of 2007 742 permits were granted for the construction of new local pipelines and cables with a total length of - 327 km.
