The Award of the Cabinet of Ministers is presented to Aija Žīgure in a festive ceremony in Vidzeme concert hall Cēsis

On Monday, 16 November, a festive ceremony was held in Vidzeme concert hall Cēsis to honour the recipients of the Award of the Cabinet of Ministers - outstanding personalities who have given significant contribution to the development of Latvia as a democratic and lawful state, as well as taken an active role in the economic and social life in Latvia. Aija Žīgure, the President of the Central statistical Bureau, was among the award recipients, appreciating her long-term and highly professional work and innovative approach to the development of the national statistical system.

Aija Žīgure: "Statistics is a knowledge-intensive sector. It requires exploring the world, examining a variety of economic and social processes. Behind each calculated figure there is heavy work, collecting, aggregating, analysing data, understanding what processes have caused and influenced the outcome. The task of a statistician is to explore and thoroughly examine a field or sector, sometimes gaining as much expertise as professionals working in the respective area. Our knowledge is important and useful not only for Latvia, but also for the European and global statistical system."
