In April, retail trade turnover grew by 2.8 %

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to April 2016, total retail trade turnover rose by 2.8 % in April 2017. Turnover of retail trade in food products increased by 1.7 %, while turnover of retail trade in non-food products grew by 4.0 %.

The most significant growth in turnover in the non-food product group was recorded in retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 21.2 %), retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 15.6 %) and in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 7.3 %). In turn, a drop in turnover was experienced in retail sale via stalls and markets (of 21.1 %), as well as in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 2.8 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 4.3 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

In April 2017, as compared to March, retail trade turnover increased by 1.3 % (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.9 %, while turnover of retail trade in non-food products increased by 1.2 %.

Growth in turnover was recorded in retail sale in non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (of 5.5 %), retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 3.9 %), retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 3.7 %), as well as in retail sale of automotive fuel (of 1.5 %). In turn, a drop in turnover was experienced in retail sale via stalls and markets (of 5.8 %), as well as in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 4.2 %).

Compared to March, in April 2017 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) rose by 0.1 %.
