In April regular survey „Use of computer and Internet in households” will be launched

On April 1 Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) already for the 10th time will launch annual survey “Use of computers and Internet in households”. It will last until June, and it is foreseen to survey 5.5 thsd households, individually surveying populationaged 16 to 74 years. Addresses for the survey were selected with the random sampling method.

CSB will survey population both on the use of computer and Internet, and on the use of cloud computing services. Questions on cloud computing mainly refer to the use of file storage services on the Internet for personal purposes.

The survey will be carried out by the CSB interviewer either in face-to-face interview at respondent's place of residence, or over the telephone. Before the survey will be launched household included in the sample will receive an informative letter from the CSB. Depending on the kind of interview indicated in the letter, the interviewer will call or upon arrival will present an identity card with a photo. In case of face-to-face interview respondent may arrange more suitable time for the interview by calling to the number indicated in the letter. Upon arrival the interviewer will present an identity card with a photo. The duration of the interview will comprise approximately 10 minutes per person.

Everyone will be able to study the results of the survey already in the beginning of October. They will ensure data users in Latvia and abroad with qualitative and internationally comparable information on the use of computers and Internet in households. Also these results will be used in planning development opportunities in the sector of information and communication technologies.

Such survey is being carried out in all European Union member countries using united surveying methodology. The information obtained in the form of summary is used for statistical purposes. CSB guarantees confidentiality of the information obtained accordingly Personal Data Protection Law and Official Statistics Law.

Results of the surveys carried out in previous years are available in the CSB publication “On the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Households in 2013”, on the data base of CSB home page and in the Statistical Yearbook of Latvia. Statistical data on information and communication technologies are also available in the data base of Statistical Office of the European Communities Eurostat home page (ec.europa.eu/eurostat).

CSB is asking residents to be responsive and cooperate with the interviewers, because response of each individual is important in acquisition of qualitative data!
