In April industrial producer prices increased by 0.3%

Compared to March, producer prices in Latvian industry in April 2006 increased by 0.3%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau. Over the year (April 2006 over April 2005) producer prices have increased by 8.8%. In April 2005 prices decreased by 0.2% compared to March but compared to April 2004 the increase was 8.6%.

Shipbuilding and repair as well as the manufacture of railway rolling stock.

Compared to March, the overall level of producer prices in April 2006 was raised by the price increase of 0.1 percentage point in each of the following activities: manufacture of wearing apparel; dressing and dyeing of fur, manufacture of wood and of products of wood (except furniture), publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media as well as by the increase in the tariffs for electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply.

Over the same period a fall in the prices in the manufacture of food products and beverages has lowered the overall price level by 0.2 percentage points and the price decrease in the manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres as well as in the manufacture of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) has lowered it by 0.1 percentage point in each activity.

Over the year price increases in the manufacture of food products and beverages and rises in the tariffs for electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply made the greatest impact on the overall level of producer prices raising it by 1.8 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively. The overall price level was raised by 0.7 percentage points due to price increases in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood (except furniture) as well as in the manufacture of other transport vehicles and by 0.4 percentage points in the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products.
