Annual retail trade growth in March – 3.8%

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to February, the total retail trade turnover in March 2014 rose by 2.8%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Retail trade in food products grew by 3.1%, whereas of non-food products - by 2.6%.

Compared to February, the total retail trade turnover at current prices, not taking into account seasonality, in March increased by 14.3%. A year ago, in March 2013, as compared to February 2013 - turnover rose by 10.7%.

Compared to March 2013, the total retail trade turnover in March 2014 rose by 3.8%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Rise in food commodity group comprised 4.1%. In non-food commodity group there was a 3.6% increase, of which in retail sale of automotive fuel – 2.3%. The most rapid turnover increase in March was observed in retail sale of hardware, paints and glass – of 20.0%, as well as in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods - of 15.5%.

As compared to March 2013, the total retail trade turnover at current prices rose by 3.7% (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2013 the total retail trade turnover in the 1st quarter of 2014 decreased by 0.4%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Retail trade in food products increased by 0.2%, whereas of non-food products dropped by 0.7%.

Compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year the total retail trade turnover in the 1st quarter of 2014 increased by 2.2%. Retail trade in food products increased by 3.1%, whereas of non-food products - by 1.7%.
