61.4% of the population of Latvia were employed in the 3rd quarter of 2015
In the 3rd quarter of 2015 there were 902 thsd employed persons in Latvia or 61.4% of the population aged 15 – 74 years, according to the results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) of Latvia.
Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year employment rate in the 3rd quarter of 2015 increased by 2.1 percentage points, and the number of employed persons - by 16.3 thsd. Employment rate for men grew by 1.1 percentage points, and for women - by 2.9 percentage points.
Since the end of 2012 employment rate in Latvia has been above the average European Union (EU) rate (in the 2nd quarter of 2015 it was 58.0%), but is lower than in Estonia (in the 2nd quarter of 2015 - 65.3%).

In the 3rd quarter of 2015, employment rate for young people aged 15 - 24 years was 33.5%, and it is 0.5 percentage points more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. 66.5 thsd young people aged 15 - 24 years were employed in Latvia.
In the 3rd quarter of 2015 persons employed in the main job worked on average 39.3 hours weekly, which is 0.1 hour more than in the 3rd quarter of 2014.
Information obtained in the Labour Force Survey shows that in the 3rd quarter of 2015, the share of employees who received minimum wage or less has increased by 4.9 percentage points as compared to the 3rd quarter of 2014, but has decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. The share of employees receiving wages and salaries in the amount over EUR 450.00 has slightly grown.

Within the framework of the Labour Force Survey 3.8 thsd households were surveyed in the 3rd quarter of 2015, interviewing 7.2 thsd persons aged 15 -74 years.

¹ Net wages and salaries have been calculated based on the minimum gross wages and salaries. In 2014 the minimum monthly wage was EUR 320, and in 2015 it is EUR 360.
