59.7% of the resident population of Latvia were employed in the 1st quarter of 2015


In the 1st quarter of 2015 there were 884.1 thsd employed persons in Latvia or 59.7% of the population aged 15 - 74, according to the results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) of Latvia. Employment rate over the last three quarters of 2014 did not change (59.3%), but in the 1st quarter of 2015 it increased by 0.4 percentage points. 

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2014 employment rate in the 1st quarter of 2015 increased by 1.1 percentage points, and the number of employed persons grew by 2.4 thsd. Employment rate of men grew by 2.4 percentage points, while employment rate of women decreased by 0.1 percentage point.

In the 1st quarter of 2015, 3.6 thsd persons out of the total number of employed persons still had the status of an unemployed person.

Since 2013 employment rate in Latvia has been above the average EU-28 rate (in the 4th quarter of 2014 it was 57.8%).

In the 1st quarter of 2015 employment rate of young people aged 15 - 24 was 34.0%, and it is 2.2 percentage points more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. There were 70.4 thsd employed persons aged 15 - 24 in Latvia.

In the 1st quarter of 2015 persons employed in the main job worked on average 38.3 hours weekly, which is 0.1 hour more than in the 1st quarter of 2014.

Information obtained in the Labour Force Survey shows that in the 1st quarter of 2015 as compared to the 1st quarter of 2014 the share of employees receiving net wages and salaries in the amount of EUR 450.00 - 700.01 has increased by 5.2 percentage points.

In the 1st quarter of 2015 the survey involved 4.1 thsd households, interviewing 8.0 thsd persons aged 15 -74.
