24.04.2017

The data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in 2016, the total price index of agricultural output * fell by 0.9 %, which was mainly due to the 1.5 % decline in prices of crop products. The price index of livestock products reduced slightly by 0.4 %.

Decline in the price index of crop products mainly was affected by the drop in the grain and vegetable purchase prices (of 8.3 % and 9.9 %, respectively).

In 2016, the average purchase price of grain was the lowest recorded since 2012; it diminished from 207.20 euros per tonne to 132.31 euros per tonne. Compared to 2015, the indicator fell by 8.3 %, and compared to 2012, by 36.1 %. The price reduction observed last year was influenced also by the poor quality of the grain purchased resulting from the bad weather conditions.

Compared to 2015, the average purchase price of grain reduced by 9.9 % or 52.43 euros per tonne.

The purchase price of rape seeds has increased over the recent years. Compared to 2015, in 2016 it grew by 4.4 %.

Increase was observed also in purchase prices of potatoes as well as fruit and berries – by 4.1 % and 6.2 %, respectively, compared to the year before.

* Price indices of agricultural output characterise changes in agricultural product prices taking place during a certain period. Compared to the base period. i.e.,year 2010. The total price index of agricultural output is estimated considering the average weighted prices of separate products, using estimates of the Economic Accounts for Agriculture on the base year as the weights.

More information on prices and indices of agricultural products is available in the CSB database section Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery.
