In the 3rd quarter of 2017 the average gross wages and salaries for full-time work comprised 925 euros. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2016, the average earnings have increased by 65 euros or 7.5 %.


Compared to September, in October 2017 the level of construction costs in Latvia rose by 0.3 %. Labour remuneration of workers went up by 0.5 %, maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment by 0.4 %, and prices of building materials by 0.2 %.

In 2016 social protection expenditure in Latvia accounted for EUR 3 783.6 mln and, compared to 2015, it has grown by EUR 151 mln or 4.2 %. Expenditure on unemployment rose by 19.2 %, on sickness and heath care by 6.5 %, and on support for families and children by 6.0 %.


Compared to September, in October 2017 the level of producer prices in Latvian industry dropped by 0.2 %. Prices of products sold on the domestic market decreased by 0.5 %, while prices of exported products went up by 0.1 %.

Latvian employment rate has increased by 1.8 percentage points over the year. In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Latvian employment rate was the highest one recorded during the two past decades – 63.6 %. Employment rate exceeding 63 % (constituting 63.1 %) was recorded only in the 2nd quarter of 2008.


In the 3rd quarter of 2017 Latvian unemployment rate constituted 8.5 %. Compared to the previous quarter, unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points, whereas, compared to the same period of the year before – by 1.0 percentage points.


964.1 thsd visitors stayed at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments in the 3rd quarter of 2017, which is 11.8 % more than during the respective period of 2016. Compared to the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors increased by 14.4 %, reaching 1.86 million. The average length of stay comprised 1.9 nights. 


Compared to the corresponding period of 2016, in the 3rd quarter of 2017 construction output increased by 25 % (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). Construction output at current prices amounted to 580.8 million euros.
