Since the 1st quarter of 2016 the employment rate has increased by 0.6 percentage points. In the 1st quarter of 2017, in Latvia there were 882.5 thousand employed persons or 61.6 % of the population aged 15–74.

In the 1st quarter of 2017 the Latvian unemployment rate constituted 9.4 %. Compared to the previous quarter, the unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points, whereas, compared to the same period of the year before, the rate reduced by 0.9 percentage points.

In 2016 the volume of electricity produced in combined heat and power plants kept increasing and accounted for 3 767.4 gigawatt hours, which constitutes 59 % of the total volume of electricity generated in Latvia.

397.4 thsd visitors stayed at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments in the 1st quarter of 2017, which is 8.6 % more than during the first three months of 2016. As compared to the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors increased by 6.3 % and reached 784.9 thousand. The average duration of a visitor's stay at an accommodation establishment was 2.0 nights.

Compared to the corresponding period of 2016, in the 1st quarter of 2017 construction output increased by 8.4 % (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). Construction production output at current prices amounted to 222 million euros.

During the year (in April 2017, compared to April 2016) the average level of consumer prices increased by 3.4 %. Prices of goods grew by 3.2 % and prices of services by 4.0 %.

In March 2017 Latvian foreign trade turnover amounted to EUR 2.15 bln, which was 14.3 % higher than in March 2016 (at current prices), and the exports and imports values of goods were 13.2 % and 15.2 % higher, respectively.
