Compared to 2015, in 2016 the output of meat grew by 2 % and output of milk by 0.8 %. In 2016, 87.2 thousand tons of meat were produced in Latvia and 986.2 thousand tons of milk.

Compared to January, in February 2017 the average level of producer prices in Latvian industry grew by 0.4 %. The prices of products sold on the domestic market increased by 0.5 % and prices of exported products by 0.4%. The prices of products exported to euro area countries increased by 0.6 % and prices of products exported to non-euro area countries by 0.2 %.

At the end of 2016 in Latvia there were 884.4 thousand occupied posts, and, compared to the end of 2015, the number thereof has grown by 7.0 thousand or 0.8 %. During the year, the number of occupied posts in private sector rose by 10.6 thousand, reaching 595.6 thousand. In the 4th quarter of 2016, the number of occupied posts in public sector accounted for 288.8 thousand – a decrease of 3.6 thousand, compared to the corresponding period of 2015.

Compared to the 4th quarter of the previous year, in the 4th quarter of 2016 hourly labour costs rose by 51 cents or 7.3 %, reaching 7.46 euros.

In 2016 population perception of the ability to make ends meet, namely, to pay for usual necessary expenses, has changed positively. Increasingly more households admit that pay for usual necessary expenses with some difficulty or fairly easily The share of households paying for usual necessary expenses with difficulty or with great difficulty keeps declining.

In January 2017 Latvian foreign trade turnover amounted to EUR 1.8 bln, which was 16.1 % higher than in January 2016 (at current prices), and the exports and imports values of goods were 13.3 % and 18.5 % higher, respectively. In January, Latvia exported goods in the amount of EUR 808.7 mln, and imported goods in the amount of EUR 984.1 mln.

During the year (in February 2017, compared to February 2016) the average level of consumer prices increased by 3.3 %. Prices of goods grew by 3.4 % and prices of services by 3.0 %.
