Foreign trade of Latvia in May 2009

In May 2009 the total foreign trade turnover at current prices reached 618.3 mln lats – less by 4.2% or 27.1 mln lats than a month before and less by 38.5% or 387.6 mln lats than in May last year, according to provisional data of Central Statistical Bureau.

In January – May 2009 foreign trade turnover value reached 3252.7 mln lats – less by 35.4% or 1782.6 mln lats than in the same period of last year. Of which exports value comprised 1340.0 mln lats – less by 27.7% or 513.6 mln lats, but imports value comprised 1912.7 mln lats – less by 39.9% or 1269.0 mln lats than a year ago.

In May 2009 the most significant share (71.8%) in Latvia’s export had export to the countries of European Union, followed by the export to CIS countries – 14.9%. Main export partners were Lithuania (16.8% of total export), Estonia (14.9%), Russia (8.7%), Germany (7.7%) and Sweden (6.0%).

In May 2009 the most significant share in Latvia’s import had import from the countries of European Union (77.4%), followed by the import from CIS countries – 13.8%. Main import partners were Lithuania (18.1% of total import), Germany (13.3 %), Poland (9.2%), Russia (8.6%) and Estonia (7.8%).
