Foreign trade of Latvia in March 2009

In March 2009 the total foreign trade turnover at current prices reached 700.6 mln lats – more by 8.3% or 53.7 mln lats than a month before and less by 29.7% or 296.3 mln lats than in March last year, according to provisional data of Central Statistical Bureau.

In January – March 2009 foreign trade turnover value reached 1987.1 mln lats – less by 32.7% or 963.9 mln lats than in the same period of last year. Of which exports value comprised 795.2 mln lats – less by 26.0% or 279.3 mln lats, but imports value comprised 1191.9 mln lats – less by 36.5% or 684.6 mln lats than a year ago.

In March 2009 the most significant share (70.8%) in Latvia’s export had export to the countries of European Union, followed by the export to CIS countries – 15.1%. Main export partners were Estonia (13.3% of total export), Lithuania (13.0%), Germany (10.2%), Russia (8.7%) and Sweden (7.2%).

In March 2009 the most significant share in Latvia’s import had import from the countries of European Union (71.5%), followed by the import from CIS countries – 20.1%. Main import partners were Russia (14.9% of total import), Lithuania (14.3%), Germany (11.3 %), Poland (8.0%) and Estonia (6.8%).
