Foreign trade of Latvia in January-March 2009 according to Broad Economic Categories

The provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, in January - March 2009 total volume of goods in foreign trade of Latvia at current prices reached 1987.1 mln lats – a decrease of 963.9 mln lats or 32.7%, if compared to January – March 2008. Of which exports volume reduced by 279.3 mln lats or 26.0%, but imports value – by 684.6 mln lats or 36.5%.

According to BEC classification, exported and imported goods can be grouped in categories by possible kind of their utilisation. Capital goods consist of fixed assets, goods of intermediate consumption and other materials envisaged for the further processing. Goods envisaged for the needs of population are considered to be consumer goods. Other goods which are not included into the mentioned categories are included into the category of other goods (for example, army equipment and other specific goods), as well as mathematical adjustment.
