Foreign trade of Latvia in January - June 2009

The provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that, in January - June 2009 total volume of goods in foreign trade of Latvia at current prices reached 3897.5 mln lats – a decrease of 2126.6 mln lats or 35.3%, if compared to January – June 2008. Of which exports volume decreased by 584.0 mln lats or 26.4%, but imports value – by 1542.6 mln lats or 40.5%.

According to BEC classification, exported and imported goods can be grouped in categories by possible kind of their utilisation. Capital goods consist of fixed assets, goods of intermediate consumption and other materials envisaged for the further processing. Consumer goods are foreseen for the needs of population. Other goods not included in the mentioned categories (e.g., army equipment and other specific goods) are included in the category "other goods".
