General statistics

Statistical yearbook of Latvia, 2013


In its content the yearbook is the most extensive annual publication that offers a broad picture of social and economic phenomena and processes in the country. The majority of data cover the time period from 2000 to 2012. The yearbook provides information on social and political situation, economy and finance, population and social processes, sectors of national economy, as well as on science and technologies. A separate chapter compiles information on international comparisons of social and economic indicators. The publication contains 10 thematic chapters. Each thematic chapter contains several subheadings.


The publication covers the following thematic sections: general data, economy and finance, population and social conditions, industry, construction, trade and services, agriculture, forestry and fishing, foreign trade, transport, energy and environmental protection, information technologies, science and innovations, comparative international statistics. Information in the yearbook is given in tables, charts and maps, thus simplifying the perception of the information. In addition to the statistical information, explanations of the main statistical terms, methodological information on data sources and calculation methods of selected indicators are published in the yearbook. Information from the CSB and other institutions was used to compile the yearbook. Statistical information was obtained by conducting statistical surveys, as well as by using data from public registers and other information systems. The information source is indicated at the beginning of each chapter.


Monthly bulletin of Latvian statistics


The monthly bulletin of the Latvian statistics provides provisional monthly and quarterly information on the economic and social situation in Latvia, as well as on the results of statistical surveys and researches. A separate chapter is devoted to the social and economic key indicators of the Baltic States; statistical data on other countries are also included. The introductory table of the publication provides statistics on the key social and economic indicators, whereas the rest of the information in tables is published in the following sections: economy and finance, population and social conditions, industry, construction, domestic trade, tourism, agriculture, forestry and fishing, foreign trade, transport, environment and energy. At the beginning of each section there are explanatory notes concerning the data sources and calculation methods of set indicators.














Economy and finance


Public finances of Latvia, 2013


The statistical data collection contains information on the general government sector in accordance with the methodology of European System of Accounts (ESA 1995): the key indicators in breakdown by sub sector, revenue by kind of taxes, expenditure by government function, debt, finance account and balance. It also includes bank indicators: exchange rates of the Bank of Latvia, weighted average annual rates on loans issued by credit institutions, weighted average annual rates on deposits in credit institutions. The key financial indicators are compared to other Baltic States. Tables of notification on General Government Budget Deficit and Debt to the European Commission are also included in the publication. Data from the Treasury, the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Latvia, the Ministry of Economy and the CSB were used to develop the data collection. Data are provided for 2012 and compared with previous years.


Consumer prices


The text, tables and graphs of the informative leaflet present the main information on the average prices of set goods and services that can be easily grouped and described according to common features. Prices for goods with wide assortment, for example, for clothes, footwear, electronic goods, etc., are not published.






Population and social conditions

Demography, 2013


This statistical data collection includes information on the number and changes in the population, breakdown by gender, age and ethnic composition; demographic burden, marriages and divorces, fertility, mortality, long-term migration, citizenship. The main summary data are shown in dynamics. Data for 2000 – 2010 are recalculated according to the results of Population and Housing Census 2011. A part of the indicators are broken down by statistical region and city under state jurisdiction.


Women and men in Latvia, 2013


Statistical data collection contains statistics on the number of women and men broken down by age and ethnicity as well as on marriages, divorces, family composition, fertility, mortality and morbidity, employment and unemployment, labour remuneration, educational attainment, use of information technologies, offences and participation in legislative and administrative institutions in 2012, in comparison with previous years.


Income and living conditions in Latvia 2012


In the collection of statistical data, information on the survey “Community Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) 2012” is compiled. This survey is carried out in all European Union (EU) Member States and it compiles harmonised information according to common methods and definitions, which ensure data comparability among the EU Member States. The publication covers the data on following aspects of living conditions: household composition, income of households, housing conditions, ability of households to cover different expenses (material deprivation aspects), health self-assessment and access to health care, other indicators related to income and living conditions.


Labour force survey: key indicators in 2012


The data collection presents information on the results of Latvian continuous Labour Force Survey 2012. It contains data on the economic activity of the population and the situation in the labour market as well as breakdown of the number of active population (employed and unemployed) and inactive population by age group, sex, education, profession, place of residence, status and other indicators. Additionally, it includes the main results of the special theme (ad hoc module) of Labour Force Survey 2011 “Employment of Disabled People”.

Industry, Construction, Trade and Tourism

Tourism in Latvia


This statistical data collection contains information drawn from the survey of persons crossing the state border and the travellers survey conducted in 2012. The data collection also includes data on the hotels and similar accommodation establishments as well as on the activities of travel agencies. Data are given in comparison with previous years.





Transport in Latvia


The statistical data collection presents statistical information for the period 2000-2012 on the length of roads, the number of transport means as well as on transport operations broken down by main kind of transport. It contains detailed information on freight transport by road, obtained from the sample survey on lorries conducted by the CSB in 2005-2012. Selected indicators are given in comparison with other countries.



Agriculture and forestry


Agriculture in Latvia


The collection of statistical data contains the key indicators characterising the situation in agriculture in 2009-2012: sown areas, harvested production and yield of agricultural crops, number of livestock, livestock production, use of mineral and organic fertilisers, grouping of agricultural holdings by sown area and yield of agricultural crops and number of livestock, supply balance sheets and prices of agricultural products. Selected indicators are presented in breakdown by statistical region and are compared to other Baltic States.



Environment and energy


Enviromental indicators in Latvia 2012


Statistical data collection on the use of investment and current expenditure on protection of nature resources and environment, on emission of hazardous substances into atmosphere, on water abstraction and consumption, on municipal and hazardous waste, as well as on forestry and hunting. Data are provided in breakdown by city and region; some indicators – also by form of ownership.
