On costs of energy resources in 2007

01.10.2008

Central Statistical Bureau data on energy balance show that in 2007 total costs of energy resources (oil products, solid fuel, fuel wood, natural gas, heat and electricity) comprised 1830.4 mln lats (excluding value added tax), of which:

  • In transport (costs of energy resources used in all transport activities regardless the section of national economy, as well as population expenditure on fuel used in personal cars are included) – 824.6 mln lats or 45% of total costs of energy resources;

  • In transformation (costs of fuel used for production of electricity and heat, which is sold are included) – 178.5 mln lats or 9.7% of total costs of energy resources;

  • In industry, including construction – 190 mln lats or 10.4% of total costs of energy resources;

  • In commercial and public sector – 216.3 mln lats or 11.8% of total costs of energy resources;

  • In agriculture, forestry, hunting – 67.3 mln lats or 3.7% of total costs of energy resources;

  • In households – 295.6 mln lats or 16.1% of total costs of energy resources.

Costs of energy resources in 2007 comprised 13.1% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but their costs per capita constituted 802 lats, but in 2006 – 648 lats.

In 2007 total costs of energy resources were 18.7% higher than in 2006. Total costs of energy resources are influenced by the rapid price increase. The highest growth of energy resource costs was recorded in construction – 30.2%. Nevertheless compared to 2006 consumption of energy resources has decreased by 5.4% (consumption is influenced by the heating season length), in transformation sector costs rose by 23.4%.

As volume of liquefied petroleum gas in transport sector and households reduced, in 2007 total consumption of LPG in comparison with 2006 also decreased. Drop of total consumption of residual (heavy) fuel oil can be explained with consumption cut in transformation sector, where it is substituted with coal and fuel wood.
