Consumer price level in April 2009

Compared to March 2009, the average consumer price level in April 2009 decreased by 0.4%. The average prices of goods decreased by 0.3%, but prices of services - by 0.7%. The rise in the prices of pharmaceutical goods, tobacco products, footwear and fuel, as well as price decrease of food products had the greatest impact on consumer price changes.

Prices of pharmaceutical goods on average increased by 5.3%.

Prices of sports and recreational equipment grew by 4.7%, as well as did prices of fuel (+0.9%), pet food (+0.9%), hospital services (+4.9%), waste disposal (+1.8%) and medical services (+1.0%). Prices of tobacco products continued to grow (+2.8%).

Due to the sales campaigns prices of alcoholic beverages reduced by 0.6%, as well as did prices of food products (-1.7%): fruit, eggs, milk and dairy products, bread, refreshing beverages and meat and meat products. Prices of vegetables, fresh fish and cereal products also diminished. Prices continued to decrease for insurance services, house maintenance and repair services, rent, household care services, catering services, telecommunication services, solid fuel, heating and motor vehicles.

Due to the discounts prices of audio, video, photo, data processing equipment, individual care goods, stationary, parts of motor vehicles and driver’s courses reduced.

Compared to April of previous year, consumer prices have increased by 6.2%, of which prices of goods increased by 4.8%, but of services – by 9.8%.

The annual average rate of change in April 2009 was 12.5%.
