On retail trade turnover in March 2008
Compared to the corresponding period of 2007, in the 1st quarter of 2008 retail trade turnover, according to working day adjusted data, has decreased by 1.1%, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau. Moreover, the turnover of non-food products has retained only slight increase – 0.3%, but retail trade of food products has decreased by 3.6%.

Compared to February, in March 2008 retail trade turnover has decreased by 1.5%1. Turnover of food products has reduced by 0.4%, but of non-food products – by 2%. Turnover has reduced in all sectors of retail trade. Slight increase of retail trade was recorded only in specialised stores selling food, beverages and tobacco – by 2.0% and in specialised stores selling miscellaneous goods (sports commodities, optics, products for garden, computers, household chemicals etc.) – by 7.0%.

Compared to March 2007, in March of this year retail trade turnover has reduced by 3.4%2. The decrease was observed in both, group of food products and in group of non-food products, by 4.8% and 2.0%, respectively. The most rapid decrease – by 14.9%, of retail trade was observed in enterprises selling textiles, clothing, and footwear and leather ware.
The retail trade turnover has grown only in retail trade of furniture, household goods, electrical appliances and construction materials – by 5.5% and in retail trade of pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletry – by 3.4%. In none of the months of 2008 the retail trade turnover within these groups has not been lower than in corresponding period of previous year.

Compared to February, in March 2008 retail trade turnover of enterprises the main activity of which is the sale of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts thereof and automotive fuel has decreased by 10.5%1, but compared to the March of previous year, the decrease constituted 16.1%2, of which – in the retail trade of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts thereof - by 18.8%, but in the trade of automotive fuel - by 8.1%.
Compared to the corresponding period before, in the 1st quarter of 2008 the turnover of this sector has reduced by 8.3%, of which in the retail trade of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts thereof - by 8.4% and in the trade of automotive fuel – by 8.0%.
