Construction in Latvia in 2007
In 2007 the value of construction output reached 1609.7 mln lats, an increase of 12.8 % (at constant prices) in comparison to 2006, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.
In 2007 the value of new construction reached 157.6 mln lats, an increase of 21.3% compared to 2006. The value of repair and reconstruction - by 3.6% or 24.5 mln lats, respectively.
The new construction and repair and reconstruction of magisterial pipelines, communications and power lines has increased 1.7 times, of administrative buildings – 1.5 times, of residential buildings – 1.3 times. Over the same period there have been decreases of 21% in the construction of local pipelines and cable lines and 10% in the construction of production buildings and warehouses.
In 2007 residential buildings with a total floor space of 1188.4 thsd m2 were commissioned; of these 474.1 thsd m2 were built on account of the resources of the population (in 2006 – 812.6 and 388.9 thsd m2, respectively).
In the previous year the value of own account construction work done outside the Republic of Latvia was 11.7 mln lats (in 2006 – 10.5 mln lats). The bulk of construction work was actually done in the countries of the European Union and the CIS countries, 6.6 and 4.9 mln lats, respectively (in 2006 – 3.5 and 6.9 mln lats). Over the same period the value of construction work done by non-resident construction organisations in the Republic of Latvia has amounted to 6.0 mln lats.

In 2007 many important objects of national economy were commissioned, e.g., in Riga – administrative buildings’ complex of Ministry of Interior, reconstructed building of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Ventspils – newly erected therapy building of Ventspils hospital, in Liepaja – hotel „Promenade”, in district of Madona – new secondary school building in Cesvaine, track manege in Kuldiga, in district of Liepaja – reconstructed substation of A/S “Augstsprieguma tikls” in Grobina, in district of Riga – new bypass of Saulkrasti.
